Tan Kah Kee Innovation Laboratory – 100 kW Off-Grid Hydrogen Production & Storage Demonstration Project



Project Overview

AihyTech successfully implemented China’s first fully off-grid rooftop photovoltaic (PV) hydrogen production, storage, and utilization system at the Tan Kah Kee Innovation Laboratory. This project integrates the first-of-its-kind major technological equipment certified by the National Energy Administration and has passed SIL-3 safety certification. The system operates entirely off-grid, seamlessly combining solar power generation, water electrolysis, hydrogen storage, and power generation.

1. Breakthrough Technology

 A globally advanced off-grid PV-to-electrolyzer hydrogen production system, featuring sub-second cold start capability and rapid high-purity hydrogen output (≥99.999%).

 Achieves an ultra-low total energy consumption of just 4.40 kWh/Nm³, reducing energy use by 10–15% compared to traditional alkaline electrolysis (ALK).

 Maintains hydrogen-in-oxygen concentration below 0.5%, significantly exceeding industry safety standards.

2. Versatile Applications

 Complements alkaline electrolysis (ALK) technology and offers a modular design for flexible expansion.

 Adaptable for microgrid applications, emergency power supply, and various off-grid renewable energy scenarios.

 

Customer Feedback

A customer satisfaction survey rated system stability, hydrogen production efficiency, and off-grid autonomy at 96%. Clients highlighted that the cold start speed and energy efficiency exceeded expectations, setting a benchmark for large-scale green hydrogen applications. Additionally, the system’s oxygen-hydrogen safety control technology significantly reduced operational risks.
